![]() ![]() In fact most of the positives in that video are at the cost of gameplay.įirstly the really nitpicky stuff. And yeah, Skate 2 has a lot more substance to its world design sure but I feel like at a direct cost to the actual gameplay. Endless hours of fun for me but i don't know if people find the same enjoyment in it if they have never skated in real life.Ĭlick to shrink. Most of that seems to boil down to graphics. Grab your board and just roam around the city looking for cool spots and fun lines. If you're bothered by the pedestrians play in the free skate mode where you can freely set up how many other skaters and pedestrians appear in the world. Still the best Area was probably the "demo" park from skate 1, perfect layout for free skating around and was later available for skate 2 which was perfect.Īs others have mentioned the game feel is also superior to 3 with a lowered camera and little bit more weighty feel to it. Also the layout of the premade rails and boxes have a really good flow to them. The city feels more realistic in a way and encourages you to find your own creative lines with stairs and handrails and benches, instead of pre made boxes and kickers. ![]() Next is that the map is build on a downhill slope, so you always have some speed but it won't end in the end of the map quite as quickly as it is one large world. Skate 2 really has the best world to skate in: Everything is interconnected and has a flow to it, similar to Dark Souls you can go anywhere without ever seeing a loading screen. But yeah, Skate 3 just seems like an infinitely superior game in every way I can think of a game being. Gonna go back to Skate 3 on PS3 and see if my complaints were console specific or if 2 really is just so many steps behind in general quality. These are problems I never had on Skate 3 so I'm putting it on the game and not just 'git gud' on my part. Sometimes it would just freak out and do a simple Ollie despite putting in far more complex inputs. The camera and general controls are nowhere near as good as Skate 3 (particularly on PS3 which is how I played Skate 2), to the point that some of the missions were a crapshoot as to whether the trick would actually perform or if it would deem a degree off to not be the same movement. On top of that some missions wouldn't allow you to set a marker for seemingly no reason at all. ![]() So having these ramps and stuff set up to do cool stuff wouldn't be realistic enough, but having them sit barely off screen and forcing you to put them there yourself was just right?īailing on some missions just lets you try again, on others it fails the mission entirely and you need to restart it manually. Many of the challenges require a minute or two of manual setup before you can even attempt them, often not prompting the player that they cannot do the event as is. Don't get me started on missions with cops who try and knock you over. Pedestrians constantly get in your way (and seem to spawn purely to get in your way the longer you stay in any given area) Other skaters are just as bad with their terrible AI just doing truly strange things and just generally being a nuisance. ![]() Yeah, it's more realistic and true-to-life but in all the worst ways. Skate 3 on 360 was my introduction to the series, and while the hammy Tony Hawksness of it wasn't the best thing it hardly got in the way of what was otherwise an incredibly tight and well designed skating game with interesting challenges and spectacular controls.Īfter hearing so much praise for 2 and how it is leagues better than 3 I decided to play it and. ![]()
